Our Identity
Red Spruce is an Interdisciplinary Care Team that provides exceptional culturally appropriate care, therapeutic interventions, assessments, family-centred care planning, and stabilization for Families and Children whilst maintaining safety within the home, alternative home, or other placements. Red Spruce commits to providing trauma-informed care with a focus on evidence-based practice. Our Team recognizes the need for comprehensive wraparound services for families and children who experience complex barriers resulting in crisis. To meet these needs, we introduce a team comprised of Family Support Workers, Psychologists, Social Workers, Behaviour Analysts, Parent Aides, and Traditional Healing Advisors in the family’s home or a Red Spruce Roots Program home placement. Ensuring security and stabilization within the program through trauma-informed care underlines the team's focus.
A multidisciplinary team approach brings professionals together with different skills and expertise to better understand and give recommendations for a plan that would be the most successful for children, their families, the community, and the agencies we work with. With this expanded expertise in the homes of the Family, we bring a unique lens and specialization that can enhance the strengths of everyone we work with while providing a more in-depth assessment of the presenting challenges the children or family is facing. Professional perspectives and combined knowledge will ensure the best possible assessment and recommendations for the family. Our programs are always focused on reunification and permanency for the children and families we serve.
Red Spruce was founded by Shasta Paul, a Wolastoqiyik Social Worker from Sitansisk First Nation. Driven by her commitment to her community and her personal understanding of the unique challenges faced by Indigenous families, she created Red Spruce to provide wholistic, culturally rooted support that empowers families and strengthens connections. Her vision for Red Spruce is to offer a safe space where families can heal, grow, and thrive together, ensuring that their identity is honored and preserved throughout their journey. Shasta’s primary focus is on keeping families together through services dedicated to reunification, recognizing the vital importance of family connection to the strength and resilience of our community.
"The path to my own healing has been through my time on the land and growing my connection with Mother Earth. The Red Spruce Tree is my personal representation of that healing" - Shasta
